@Nurse_Nettie I found it a bit too hard to do the USYD degree while working at the same time. I’m trying to find volunteer positions, but it’s hard to squeeze in on the weekend! Are there still other ways to break into the sexual health field for those that don’t have much experience in the specific field?
@Aunt_Flo For those without a relevant degree, I’d recommend looking at sexual health advocacy or peer organisations that work with people who share an identity with you!
Programs for queer women look for volunteers from that community and likewise peer support for HIV positive people is most useful from other HIV positive people. Youth health services sometimes have opportunities to for other young people to get involved. So have a think about what types of services are relevant to you and then see if they have any role for peer educators.
Check out this list of volunteer opportunities through ACON for a start 🙂
