Anyone know of any goods one? I’ve got a great one on my bookshelf called ‘Sex and the Citadel’, which looks at the (often not talked about) sexual lives of men and women in Egypt.

@aunt_flo Oh man was I excited to open up this thread haha! SEX BOOKS! What good timing because I think I found hands down the BEST (satirical) sex book of all time. No joke.

It’s called ‘How to do sex properly’ which gives you an official ‘i can do sex properly’ certificate upon completion of the book. It’s great and hilarious and if you can get your hands on a copy, trust me you won’t be disappointed. Though *trigger warning* I would like to flag down a page in the book that jokes about rape, so keep that in mind if you do give it a read. A bit problematic, but it was published in 1982.

Real sex books I’d recommend, I actually haven’t really read many? I’m constantly looking for good ones though and I just find it SO hard to find something that isn’t, ‘MEN – how to make her cum’ or ‘MEN – this is what to do with your penis.’ Which like, cool, I’m all for those things but not when they’re the ONLY books I ever find? Either that or relationship self-help books. I just want some nice, all inclusive sex literature that gets down to business!!

@Aunt_Flo @tea oh my goodness I’ve never been more excited about a thread before in my life! My partner’s and I’s books are combined across 4 different bookshelves, into fiction, non-fiction, reference, cooking and my sex-tion. Yeah, I have that. It includes my sex, love and feminist books and there’s a bunch on the shelf that I still haven’t read yet. I also have a huge sex and relationship education book wishlist on book depository, I’m obsessed!

That’s true @tea there’s a lot of more…functional books on sexuality and sex? Instead of books that actually explore sex and what it means in depth.

That’s quite a list @sextronaut! I’ve also got the Second Sex on my book shelf, and I’ve always been interested to read Kinsey, but I’m not sure if it would come across as very dated now.

@Aunt_Flo I’m always interested to read dated stuff to see how much has carried through to our current understandings and to see what has changed!

@tea nice find! I found it okay, I love Hannah’s YouTube channel but I found the book more appropriate for younger audiences. I’d hand it to any 10-16 year old in a heartbeat but for someone who is a bit older (and already quite involved in the sexual health world) it was okay, just not groundbreaking. I’m interested to hear what you think!

@sextronaut Yeah I got that vibe when I picked it up! I do love seeing what sexual health books are out there for younger people though! There’s a good section at Kinokuniya by the YA section with quite an extensive range!
