    Finding the best menstrual cup.

I’ve been wanting to switch to menstrual cups for a while and have finally decided to do so! But then I realized that it comes in different sizes and you pick according to how heavy your flow is. How do I decide if my period is heavy or very heavy? Is a larger cup more uncomfortable? Should I buy smaller ones for my low flow days?
Wondering whether the larger ones will give me discomfort but also don’t want to be leaking because I bought cups that are too small

Ohh I am SO following this thread, thanks @weird_flex!

Hmm, that’s a really good question actually. Maybe a ‘very heavy’ flow is one where you would go through pads/tampons quicker? Or have bleeding through them? Hopefully, @nurse_nettie can give us some better answers!

Maybe you could try a few out just for fun? I haven’t tried any personally, but if other menstrual products are anything to go by – then some cups would feel better than others by design anyway? I’m really curious to see what you decide on!

Here’s some good forums/info if you’d like to see what other users have to say about this topic!

Hi @tea and @weird_flex, trying on different cups to find the best fit for you is the right way to go. If you’re looking for ways to measure your period a menstrual pictogram may help too.

@weird_flex great question! I’m looking at changing my menstrual cup soon too and the sizing choices are a bit overwhelming, too! Trying them out does seem like the best option but they’re a pretty expensive investment to make if you’re just seeing how they fit. I’m under the impression that some companies base sizing off whether or not you’ve carried a pregnancy to full term, too. There’s lots of reviews online for different cups, I find youtube reviews the most helpful. 🙂

What an amazing pictogram @nurse_nettie! Super helpful 🙂

Ohh yeah YouTube is such a great resource for cups @sextronaut! Check out this YT playlist full of menstrual cup reviews!

Let me know which one speaks out to you both @weird_flex @sextronaut! 🙂

There’s also a really cool blog post on the main Play Safe website all about menstrual cups which is pretty interesting!

I use a Diva Cup which only had too options when I bought it; size 1 for if you have not had baby and size 2 for if you have had a baby. I use size 1 and I really like it. It does occasionally leak when I am unable to empty it out for a long period of time on the day that my flow is the heaviest but it is only ever a little but so it doesn’t bother me too much.

I don’t have really heavy flows though so yeah I feel like reading and watching heaps of reviews is the way to go! 🙂

@goldenrose my experience with the diva cup is pretty similar – except my heaviest days are super heavy so I have to change my cup 4-5 times a day, and I still leak. 🙁 but, i’ve just just invested in some period undies to help with that!

I’ve also seen now that Diva Cup has released a third size – size 0. This one is for teens or menstruators with a light flow/smaller vaginal canal or cervix.

@sextronaut Oh I really should invest in a pair of period undies, they just seem so convenient!

@goldenrose they’re amazing! I used them a couple of times during my last period and have bought three more pairs for my next period so I have enough pairs to get me through my cycle (or at least the super heavy days!). I’ve bought ModiBodi one’s 🙂

@goldenrose @sextronaut How good are period undies!! I have some on right now. ModiBodi’s are sooo comfy and they work so well? I was sceptical at first but they really do work!!

@tea they’re so good!! I’ve loved them so far. Do you take an extra pair with you when you leave home? I’m concerned I might ‘fill it’ after a full day and don’t have a backup option underwear wise – I’d just use an emergency tampon and go commando, hahaha, not ideal.
