    Amazing news friends, New Zealand has become the latest country to make IUD’s free, starting from next month. How incredible! As someone who just forked out a couple of hundred dollars to get an IUD in Australia, I am ALL for Australia moving towards this, too. Besides, an IUD is much cheaper for the government than a baby, right?! What are your thoughts about this? Do you think people should have to pay for their contraception?

    I definitely think IUDs and other contraceptives need to be much, much cheaper, if not free.

    It removes a massive barrier – I imagine paying hundreds of dollars for a form of contraceptive that may not suit someone is turn-off. I’m sure that making it free would allow more people to try and see if it’s suitable for them. And if it is – bam! Long term, reversible protection.

    I really think they should be free because things like the IUD have health benefits aside from pregnancy prevention, like helping to reduce heavy, painful periods.

    Contraceptives can have huge benefits to those that use them, and cost shouldn’t be prohibitive.

    @aunt_flo absolutely! Periods can be absolutely debilitating for some people. Free and accessible healthcare is so important!

    YESSSS!!!!! Totally agree with what @aunt_flo said about the alternative health benefits, we should definitely be educated a LOT more on those!! I wasn’t even told of the other benefits when I went and got my IUD, just that it’s good for preventing pregnancy.

    I hope Australia follows NZ with this initiative – financial strain stops a lot of people from being able to access contraception so it would be super positive to have them for free!
