I’ve been reading a really good book recently with this title (Why is the penis shaped like that – Jesse Bering) and I never really thought about it, but it’s such a good question – Why IS the penis really shaped like that?
Jesse answers this in the book. Basically, regarding uncircumcised penises, it’s believed penises are shaped the way they are for a kind of, scientific purpose. Scientists and social theorists believe it is an evolutionary mechanism used to maximise the spread of one’s sperm. The penis is supposed to act as a ‘suction’ to which, any existing sperm is ‘sucked out’ to make way for the new hosts’ sperm – thereby increasing the chances of creating more offspring.
The book goes into much more detail about it, but I highly recommend giving it a read if you get the chance.
What do you think? Do you agree with the points made in Jesse’s book? Do you have your own idea of why the penis is shaped like that?
one thing I think when reading “the shape of the penis” is something like… which shape? penises come in all variations of shapes and sizes.
What’s the distinction of uncircumcised and creating “suction”? Because at least as a kid I was always told that the foreskin retracts when the penis is erect (although thats not always the case), so if the foreskin is supposed to be connected to that ability to cause suction… I guess it would be kinda MIA when needed the most!
@mintmilano Totally a good point though! The chapter talks about all the different shapes and evolutionary theory into the differentiation shapes (circumcised v. other)
I’ll have to get the book out to quote the distinction but basically, the theory is an uncircumcised penis acts as a suction, though that’s a good point about the retraction so I’m not sure,,,,,
I would say it has a shape indescribable.
