Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is Play Safe?

Play Safe is a public health program, run by NSW Health that connects young people across NSW to accurate and relevant sexual health information online.

What kind of photos will be taken of me?

We’re looking to get a bunch of pictures that show real young people in NSW being themselves. You can get an idea of the photos we want to take here.

This photoshoot will not require any nudity and we will make sure you are 100% comfortable the entire time.

What will the images be used for?

They will be used to promote important sexual and reproductive health messages, including STI testing, condom use, contraception, dating, and relationships, consent and sex.

The images will not be used in the context of being diagnosed with a specific STI, abortion, drugs or alcohol, illegal activity or anything that may have negative connotations.

I don’t have any modelling experience. Should I still apply?

Yes! No experience is necessary for this shoot. You won’t need to do any specific ‘poses’ or anything, we’ll mostly be asking you to smile and look like you’re having fun (which we’re sure you will be, so that shouldn’t be too hard haha).

Where will the images be used?

They will be used across a range of NSW Health communication channels including social media and website. Most images will be featured on the Play Safe, Play Safe Pro and International Student Health Hub websites.

Will I be paid?

You will receive a $150 Visa gift card as a thank you for your time (3 hours).

I don’t look like a model. Should I still apply?

Yes! 100%! No matter your style, sexuality, body type, ethnicity, gender, or physical ability, we’d love to work with you!

How long will the images be used for?

The images will be used for a period of three years. After that period, the Play Safe team will reach out to you each year to confirm if you are still comfortable with us using your image.

How long will I be there?

You can expect to be at the photoshoot for the full three-hour period you’re scheduled (based on your availability).

Do I get a copy of the images taken?

After the photoshoot wraps up, the photographer will process all the images and provide us with a selection of the best images from the shoot.

Once we receive these, we will send you copies of any of the images you are in. Please note that these can be used on your personal social media channels and in any modelling or talent portfolios but cannot be sold or shared for commercial gain.

What can I expect on the day?

We’ve pulled together an amazing group of professionals to help us pull off this photoshoot. You will be photographed individually, as well as in a group with other young people.

There will be loads of good food, great coffee/tea and it should be a really fun day!

Will Play Safe cover my travel and/or accommodation costs?

Sadly, Play Safe is unable to cover any travel and/or accommodation costs that you incur to take part in this photoshoot. You will receive a $150 Visa gift card as a thank you for your time.

How will the information I provide be used?

The information you provide will only be used by our team to assess your submission and let you know if you are successful. Any information you provide is strictly confidential and will be handled in accordance with our privacy policy.

Why do I need to upload a photo of myself?

Because we’re organising a photoshoot, we need to get a sense of what you look like to ensure we feature people that embody the diversity of young people across NSW.

After I submit my expression of interest. What are the next steps?

Great question! Once we have received all expressions of interest, we will reach out to everyone by Friday 2 June 2023 to let them know the outcome of their submission.

Remember, we’re hoping to find people that truly embody the diversity of young people across NSW. So, if you’re not selected, it’s not because we don’t love your look, we just want to make sure that everyone is represented in some way.
