Can supplements affect hormonal birth control?

There’s a lot of information about what pharmacy medications can interact with hormonal birth control, but less so about over the counter medication.

Are supplements, like vitamin D, iron tablets, and calcium safe to take while using a hormonal birth control like the pill or implant?

Hi @aunt_flo yes, it’s safe to take vitamin D, iron or calcium supplements while using hormonal birth control. It’s great that you’re thinking about possible interactions though. Always let your doctor know if you’re taking other medications, vitamins or supplements. Pharmacists can also check any interactions when you’re picking up a new script 🙂

Ohh I’ve always wondered the same thing @aunt_flo! I haven’t been taking supplements recently though but I always worry about interactions like this. Good to know it’s safe to take! But yeah definitely a good idea to bring up with the GP/pharmacists!
