What is the purpose of pubic hair? I read somewhere that the hair allows pheromones to be secreted once puberty starts, is this true? Or does the hair growth just signal “sexual maturity”

Like many evolutionary traits, we can’t say for sure why pubic hair has developed in humans!  We do know that pubic hair is a visual cue that a person is sexually mature – essential to the ultimate evolutionary goal: reproduction! It may also aid in carrying the scent of pheromones that help attract the most biologically appropriate sexual partners. It’s also been suggested that pubic hair protects genital skin from irritation that can be caused by the friction of sex and may even act as a barrier against certain infections!

Nowadays many people of all genders remove those pesky pubes… so what’s the effect of that trend?? I’ve written about it here!
