What is STI testing? STI testing is the process of running medical tests to check for any sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It is quick, easy, and confidential. Most STI tests only require a blood test and either a self-collected swab or a urine sample. Why is STI testing important? […]
It’s Valentine’s Day National Condom Day! It’s no coincidence that Valentine’s Day and National Condom Day fall on the same day… but in terms of which one we’re celebrating, well, that’s a no brainer. Here at Play Safe, we’ll take any excuse to celebrate condoms, but today, on National Condom […]

These videos about the differences between porn sex and real life sex are pretty funny, but also a bit concerning when you think about how many people get info about sex from porn. Is there anything you see a lot in porn that just isn’t realistic?
I always wondered why porn performers slap the clitoris when they’re performing manual stimulation. Is that a thing?
Ha, these are great @ElleBelle! I don’t know the answer to your question to be honest as personally I’m not a fan but who knows, different strokes for different folks and all that (heh, get it).
The noises always make me laugh to be honest, and used to make me think that I had to make some kind of sound during sex. Do people actually make those kinds of sounds in real life?!
That banana in the nutella though 😀
This from the highly respected The Conversation is a rather large condemnation on Porn as a replacement for proper and unshaming sexual education in the school environment: http://theconversation.com/hold-pornography-to-account-not-education-programs-for-childrens-harmful-sexual-behaviour-68473
You know what you hardly ever see in porn – CONDOMS. And certainly never that awkward 30 seconds while you wait for your partner to put one on.
I actually think that makes an interesting point @ElleBelle – that putting on a condom is pretty unsexy.
The lack of pubic hair in porn is far from realistic!
@ElleBelle – I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE ELSE BROUGHT UP THE SLAPPING THING. Tried it once. Didn’t go down well….. I will also never live down asking my brother what happens if I accidentally pee inside a girl. Clearly hadn’t experienced morning glory while needing a wizz by that stage.
Also why does porn have to be so penetration based. So much of sex can be in the build up…. The release is just that. As my partner always says “You have to preheat the oven”
“Is there anything you see a lot in porn that just isn’t realistic?”
Everything 😉
But yeah, porn is commonly catered to the male gaze so the reality of sex and things that actually turn on females (screw that slapping!) is just not part of it. Nor is messy (head butts, red faces, queefs, cramps, protection) part of the story – unless of course it’s a money shot and then see previous comment about male gaze. :p
Oh and in expectation versus reality: the need to go to the toilet!
Legit had two shirtless tradies working directly outside my bathroom window the other morning. My bathroom has no fan and faces on to just a fence so I normally shower with the window open. Safe to say I expected the music to kick in anytime…
I have a friend who moved into a house when she was 16 and accidentally walked in on one of the guys in the house in the bathroom after a shower. I still remember her asking us at the time if now she had to show herself naked to him or something to even it out. At the time I remember we all thought that seemed pretty logical. When I think about it now though I realise how warped our perceptions were.
Noise is one thing, it always shows the female as moaning. Is this even true in reality?
Yes @Awesome489! I’m sure neighbours would complain if all women moaned the exact same way. I wouldn’t say it’s true – you can quietly enjoy a good time!
I often wonder how many people moan because they’re communicating with their partner that it feels good, and how many do it because they think they’re supposed to thanks to porn @Awesone489.
I heard somewhere that if you hurt yourself, it actually lessens the pain to verbalise it with swearing or shouting. My trainer once told me people seem to lift heavier when they grunt at the effort. I’m curious if it’s a similar thing with sex, it feels better when you make noises. Either way, loud porn moaning just seems unrealistic. Often they start before anyone has even touched them!
The other thing I’ve come across is that the guys have really big dicks and the women have big perfect boobs. That is not a correct reflection for sure.
