What is a Youth Health Service? And what should you expect when you visit one?
A Youth Health Service is a FREE, SAFE, & CONFIDENTIAL place for young people aged 12-24 years of age.
They’ve got doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, health education officers, and they offer case management. You don’t need to take your Medicare card, the staff members are friendly, non-judgemental, and used to working with young people. It can be really hard to find someone you can trust and talk to, even just to ask questions, so Youth Health Services are there to make it easier to open up and get help with whatever you’re going through without feeling ashamed or scared.
At your local Youth Health Service you can get a sexual health check, pregnancy tests, pregnancy support and advice, contraception, immunisations, counselling, support and heaps of other general health stuff.
Generally, if you are 14 years or over, your parents cannot see your health records, unless you agree to this.
If you would like to make a visit to your local Youth Health Service either give them a call to make an appointment or just drop in and check them out. Remember, they are FREE, SAFE & CONFIDENTIAL.
